RAMM – Exeter
First opened to the public in 1868 and now praised by the judges for its ‘ambition and imagination’, RAMM Exeter was crowned ‘Museum of the Year,’ in 2012, and awarded the £100,000 Art Fund Prize for its redevelopment project. Chair of Judges, Lord Smith of Finsbury, said of the Museum, “The new Royal Albert Memorial Museum is quite simply a magical place.”
RAMM cares for a wonderful and diverse collection consisting of over one million individual objects and specimens from all over the globe. They are divided into the following curatorial departments: antiquities; ethnography; natural history, decorative and fine arts.The collections contain items of local, national and international importance, and many are of outstanding historical or cultural significance.
